The MA season saw the completion of fifteen months of determination and hard work by LCF’s MA 2012 graduates: a three-day stint at Victoria House and an exclusive catwalk show held in the prestigious V&A.

Last week, Beatrice Korlekie Newman, who graduated this year from MA Digital Fashion, was featured on Blue Peter, the popular BBC children’s programme. Blue Peter were looking for a rising young fashion designer from LCF to feature on their programme and Beatrice, who recently showcased her collection on the catwalk at the LCF MA show at the V&A was selected to take part to inspire a new generation of budding fashion designers.

Beatrice was featured alongside presenter Michelle Ackerly and rapper Tinchy Stryder giving her expert knowledge on how to customise trainers using techniques such as stencilling and adding embellishments.

Beatrice sent us this snap of her and Tinchy after the filming and said of the experience:

I absolutely loved Blue Peter when I was a child and I was thrilled to be part of the programme. It was enjoyable, exhilarating and most importantly fun to be featured!

This London Fashion week saw a host of esteemed LCF alumni debuting or returning to showcase their collections to the international fashion elite.

Design duo Jena.Theo, A.K.A Jenny Holmes and Dimitris Theocharidis showed, their Autumn/Winter 2012/13 collection ‘Heavy Metal’ on the first day of London Fashion Week.

Nova Chiu, having won the coveted collection of the Year at the 2011 LCF BA runway show, was immediately picked up by Vauxhall Fashion Scout for their ONES TO WATCH. Nova’s show marked her debut on the catwalk since her graduate collection.

Menswear graduate and recipient of the British Fashion Council NEWGEN sponsorship, J.W. Anderson showcased his womenswear collection which he debuted in 2010, and his menswear collection as part of the Menswear day.

Fellow menswear graduate James Long, who showcased his womenswear collection as part of Fashion East, also showed on Menswear day and live streamed his show from the BFC Live website.

Ada Zanditon, a graduate from BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology – Womenswear presented her AW 12/13 collection ‘Simia Mineralis’ as part of the Digital Schedule at the BFC Screening Room at Somerset House, whilst also showcasing her ready to wear collection at the Estethica exhibition, the British Fashion Council’s ethical initiative.

Baartmans &Siegel, after being selected as ONES TO WATCH by Vauxhall Fashion Scout last year, design duo Wouter Baartmans and Amber Siegel – who met whilst studying menswear at both MA and BA level at London College of Fashion – showed on Menswear Day as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout.

Joseph Turvey, having only graduated this year and showing his collection a mere 3 weeks ago at the LCF MA_12 catwalk show, debuted at London Fashion Week as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout.

Asger Juel Larson, was the last LCF designer to showcase on Menswear day at London Fashion Week. Asger, who came through the ranks at LCF having studied both at BA level and MA level and was heralded as a ‘ONE TO WATCH’ for AW11, who is showed on the catwalk in a collaboration with designer T.Lipop.

Up and coming designers Jennifer Morris (MA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear 2011), Charlotte Simpson (MA_12 graduate from MA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear), Christina Hamilton (MA_12 graduate from MA Fashion Artefact) and Lucia Liu (BA Fashion Design Technology Womenswear 2011), were all featured designers at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Exhibition which ran throughout London Fashion Week.

The Exhibition at London Fashion Week – which is a carefully curated selection of 120 emerging and established accessories, jewellery and ready-to-wear designer brands -played host to an unprecedented number of ONES TO WATCH from LCF, including footwear designers Camilla Skovgaard, Kat Maconie and Joanne Stoker, all graduates from footwear courses at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion. Joining the footwear stars was accessories designer Kate Sheridan, and ethical lingerie designer Charini Suriyage, who showed as part of the Esthetica exhibition.

Fannie Schiavoni, who studied for a Diploma in Production Tailoring (now available as  foundation degree) before going onto BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology Womenswear will showed her collection to international buyers having already gained notoriety winning the BFC NEWGEN sponsorship.  Also showcasing his collection at the BFC exhibition was Omar Kashoura, who graduated from London College of Fashion’s BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology course in 2004 with first class honours.

Fanny & Jessy, who graduated in 2009 presented their collection as part of the Digital schedule this year under the new Fash/On Film initiative, with their fashion film ‘Kings’ being screen at the Canon cinema space.

All in all it was a fantastic London Fashion Week for LCF alumni, with a definite buzz about these young designers showcasing their work – we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these rising stars with very bright futures ahead of them.

MA_12 winning collections

We caught up with the two MA_12 winners straight after the catwalk show to see how they were feeling.

Menswear: Collection of the Year was Tina Elisabeth Reiter – whose modern, fresh and innovative collection was inspired by her Austrian heritage.

The winner of Womenswear: Collection of the Year was Hana Cha from Seoul in South Korea, who produced a show-stopping collection of exquisite womenswear featuring luxurious golds and purples, that required hours of painstaking hand embroidery.

TV and radio personality Lauren Laverne announced the awards, with the help of young British designer Christopher Raeburn.

London Fashion Week officially begins today and is a highlight of the international fashion calendar. This season promises to be another stand out year for LCF’s incredibly talented alumni who are debuting or returning to showcase their collections to the fashion elite.

Here we bring you a roundup of the freshest LCF talent breaking into the fashion industry at London Fashion Week February 2012, including MA_12 designers who showed a matter of weeks ago in the beautiful surroundings of the V&A and Victoria House who have already been snapped up to showcase their graduate collections.

MA_12 Graduates get snapped up by Vauxhall Fashion Scout

Vauxhall Fashion Scout, the internationally recognised home of new talent has announced today it has snapped up three London College of Fashion MA_12 graduates for their forthcoming AW12/13 season.

Joseph Turvey, Charlotte Simpson and Christina Hamilton will present their collections with Vauxhall Fashion Scout at LFW later this month, after only showcasing their work as part of the LCF MA_12 Season just a week ago.

Joseph Turvey, MA Fashion Design Technology – Menswear has been selected as part of the line up for Ones to Watch MEN, while Fellow MA Fashion Design Technology – Womenswear graduate Charlotte Simpson and MA Fashion Artefact graduate and winner of the Leathersellers’ Company Business Start Up Award Christina Hamilton have both been selected for the AW12/13 presentation, where their collections will be presented to international fashion press, industry and buyers.

Specifically tailored to the men’s market on LFW’s dedicated Menswear day, Ones To Watch MEN is a collaborative platform for four of the hottest new talents, selected by panel of industry experts. This season the Judging Panel included Katy England, Holly Shackleton Editor of i-D, Jessica Bumpus of Vogue.com, Style Bubble’s Susie Lau, Marios Schwab, Felder Felder, David Koma Hanna Emslie from Selfridges Zara Martin for Village Bicycle, Rebekah Roy, and Vauxhall Fashion Scout´s Founder and Director Martyn Roberts.

This season, the selection of Ones To Watch MEN is an enthusing, stimulating line up of new names. The hugely successful launch of the Ones To Watch MEN initiative at London Fashion Week has seen great talents, including T.Lipop, Baartmans and Siegel and Asger Juel Larsen launch their labels into the rapidly evolving menswear market. OTW MEN is a powerful vehicle promoting, supporting and presenting to the industry new names.

Joseph, Charlotte and Christina join fellow LCF graduates William Tempest, Ada Zanditon, Nova Chiu, Baartmans and Siegel, Young Lilee, Asger Juel Larson and Jennifer Morris – all of whom have been selected by Vauxhall Fashion Scout over the last couple of years for their pioneering programme which offers unique showcasing opportunities via catwalk shows, salon shows, presentations or exhibitions, whilst also offering the designers business support and sponsorship opportunities.

We spoke to staff, students, press and industry guests at the Private View of our MA_12 exhibition at Victoria House Basement.

Winners from the evening included Ana Rajcevic for her Fashion Artefact creations. Emily Towers, who scooped the Fashion Environment award for asking how we start using our natural resources responsibly with design. Cat Potter and Ross Barbour won the Cordwainers’ Company Dato Jimmy Choo MA award, receiving £1,500 in the process. Christina Hamilton won the Leathersellers’ Company Business Start up Award and is now about to set up her own business.

Saskia Reis won the Fashion Media Production award for her innovative LOVESTREET project which turns street style photography on its head into street style video profiles and Noemie Schwaller won for Fashion Journalism by launching her magazine Dash at Fashion Week . Claire Bergkamp won the award for MA Fashion Entrepreneurship.

 

MA_12 at the Victoria and Albert Museum

Last night’s MA Catwalk Show 2012 had a packed audience including the Rt Hon Home Secretary Theresa May MP. Beamed live across the world on the LCF website and award winning website Not Just A Label, this years’ menswear and womenswear designers took to the catwalk.
