A project organised by the BBC, Blast Fashion has brought together a team of aspiring young fashion designers to create a new label. As part of the fashion process, Kay Fackrell and her team of stylists from the Diploma in Hair and Make-Up Styling course visited the Blast Fashion team to inspire their forthcoming catwalk show at the Royal Academy of Arts on September 17th.

LCF students Amita Rallin and Salimah Haji will be managing a team of hair and make up stylists at the show, which will be part of On/Off during London Fashion Week

Kira Shaw and Quintessence

Kira Shaw from the Diploma in Hair and Make-Up Styling sent this image.

I have only just finished my diploma course. This image was taken by Lufe Gomes, a Brazilian photographer I contacted a few months ago because I really like his work.

He then contacted me to participate in some photo shoots for Fashion and Surface Textiles students and their final collections. Quintessence Amanda Uduku was the name of this particular design student.

Hair and make up: Kira Shaw; designer and stylist: Quintessence; photography: Lufe Gomes; model: Alexandra McKnight @ Models1.

Fashion Friday

Group of young models in costume

Romy Kirk uploaded these images from a recent Diploma in Hair and Make-Up Styling project. Romy and her coursemates Shelly Hsu-Chun Cheng, Poppy Coleman, Ruby Yan Di Huang, Jessie Xiao Liang and Eun Jn Yu were involved with a fashion show put on by a group of young students at the National Portrait Gallery.

Fashion Friday was the final day of a course for some students aged between 16-21. They had a week to design a collection only using recycled fabric and bits of clothing. At the end of the week they had to do a fashion show for the public. The organisers for this event needed people to do hair and make up for the final show so our course director asked a few selected students to help out! We obviously jumped at the chance since any work experience looks great on our cv. The fashion show was meant to be based on a collection of photos called ‘vanity fair’ so we asked the students what they wanted with the hair and made something suitable for the event. We stayed to watch to fashion show after and it was really exciting knowing that we had helped towards it! We all loved doing the show!!
