Jessica Ng of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design sent the above image:

One of my final outcomes for our FDT project. I made the cape-ish thing she’s wearing out of a deconstructed men’s jacket.

Chloe Mason, course director of the Foundation Degree Fashion Buying and Merchandising, sent in these shots from her students’ ‘Product Review’ meeting, which marked the end of their Spring term project.

The project this term was for teams of students to assimilate being junior buyers and merchandisers who had bought two garments from a charity shop and modified them to be sold in an online fashion retail store. They used their skills taught in Product Development of Photoshop and Illustrator to produce specification  sheets, and their learning of the buying role to explain retail selling prices and trend influences. The students also showed their understanding of Merchandising to produce Excel spreadsheets showing their  budget expenditure and how much profit they hoped to make.

At the meeting, students presented their garments and spreadsheets using PowerPoint to the lecturers. This gave the students the chance to mimic a real-life situation and bring experience of working in a fashion retail head office into the classroom. The students were both excited and nervous about the project and it proved a fantastic learning tool for them which will help them next term where they have to develop an ethically sourced capsule collection.
