LCF Loves You 2012

This year, we are once again launching a search for people like YOU (male and female) to model in photoshoots, fashion films and walk the runway in one of the highest profile graduate showcases in the UK: our BA runway show on 28 June.

We love individuality, we love image, we love uniqueness, we just want to see more of it in the fashion industry – we know things are changing but we’re not willing to wait – our students are the fashion industry of tomorrow. We say homogeneous fashion images are for the faint hearted. We will create events and editorials that are alive and reflect how much London College of Fashion loves fashion and loves the people that make it happen. To do this we need YOU.

LCF Street Cast models work with GQ and House of Fraser

2011 saw LCF’s first search for individuality and uniqueness for the BA Catwalk shows. 300 people registered their interest to take part and out of those 20 models were chosen for the BA Catwalk Show.

We caught up a few of the models and some of them have since been selected for other graduate shows, House of Fraser, Milan Fashion week and GQ magazine!

Siobhan Ridguard - casting to catwalk

Siobhan Ridguard decided to enter after seeing the content of previous LCF shows:

I was awe-struck by the artistry of the designers, production that had gone into the show and the standard of models … Since the casting I have had the privilege to work with LCF again on a shoot promoting the new academic year and I’ve been selected for the Central St Martins first year show, worked for Romero Bryan, Bastyan and House of Fraser to name but a few.

Siobhan wore collections by Chi Chi Luo.

LCF student makes final of H&M Design Award

Stine Riis, a 2011 BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear graduate, has been named as the UK finalist of the H&M Design Award 2012, for which she wins €5,000. Stine now joins finalists from five other countries to compete for the global H&M Design Award prize of €50,000, and the chance to show the winning collection at Stockholm’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Stine’s collection was chosen by a jury of British fashion experts, who praised Stine for the maturity and modernity of her designs.

Speaking of the experience Stine said:

It’s very exciting. There are so many talented students in Britain, so for me to be chosen to represent the UK is a really big deal. My dream is to start my own label, and getting selected for this competition gives me the confidence to keep going. It’s a really great experience from which I can learn so much.

Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design commented:

Stine really stood out because her collection was really modern. It had a good balance between somethingthat felt new, but at the same time was also really commercial, and you just wanted to have it. She showedvery good craftsmanship, and lots of ideas in one collection. It was very strong.

The H&M Design Award is a new annual initiative to support and encourage the future stars of fashion. BA graduates from fourteen fashion schools have competed to be the finalist for six countries, who will then be judged by a grand jury for the overall prize. In the UK, students from Central Saint Martins, Brighton School of Architecture and Design and London College of Fashion were judged by a panel which included Emma Sells of Elle.co.uk; Cat Callender of The Daily; Gareth Scourfield of Esquire, H&M’s Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson and Chloe Bowers, UK Public Relations Manager for H&M.

Ideators – next generation entrepreneurs

Two LCF students are currently taking part in the Sri Lankan reality show Ideators. The reality TV show competition brings together six undergraduates from the UK and six from Sri Lanka. The contestants are mixed up and divided into two teams. Each team is given a challenging business task that they must complete within a given time-frame. Week by week the contestants will get whittled down from the losing team until the last-standing contestant walks home with the coveted title ‘British Council IDEATOR’.

The British Council partnered with 14 leading organisations in Sri Lanka and 10 UK and Sri Lankan educational institutes to deliver ‘IDEATORS’, which provides an interactive learning platform to its contestants and viewers.

One of  the LCF students Lara Caxton (MA Fashion Entrepreneurship) has previously been to India to study fast fashion.

Speaking about her experience, Nikita revealed:

It was an absolute pleasure working with Laury Smith and the X Factor team.  We fitted Amelia’s dress onto her right before she walked onto the stage and watched her perform from her dressing room, a moment in time that a young designer will never forget.  Thank you so much for the support and I look forward to sharing many more fashion memories with you all.

BA (Hons) Fashion Textiles graduate Sanna Naapuri was also featured when Misha wore an oil print velvet cape and leggings from her A/W 2011 collection.
